How to Make Cereal Bowl Wall Art for Your Craft Room (Inspired by Kaarin Joy)

Pastel purple bowls filled with colorful resin-coated cereal and spoons arranged on a table for DIY cereal bowl wall art, framed with a soft rainbow gradient background for craft room decor.

If you’re anything like me, you love filling your craft space with things that make you smile and spark creativity. So when I saw a video by Kaarin Joy on TikTok featuring realistic cereal art, I immediately knew I needed to try it for myself.

This DIY cereal bowl wall art is playful, colorful, and surprisingly realistic—and it makes the perfect statement piece for a craft room, studio, or creative nook. Best of all, you can customize it with your favorite cereals and colors.

Let’s dive into how you can make your own!

🛠️ Materials Needed

Here’s everything you’ll need to get started:

🥣 Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Attach the Spoon

Start by hot gluing the spoon to the bowl in the position you want it to sit. This helps create that “mid-scoop” look that makes the piece feel dynamic and realistic.

2. Fill the Bowl with Foam

Cut a foam noodle into small pieces and hot glue them inside the bowl. This fills most of the space so you don’t waste resin or spackling later.

Think of this as building the foundation for your “milk.”

3. Create the Milk Base

Once the bowl is filled with foam, spread lightweight spackling over the top. This mimics the look of milk and gives you a smooth surface for your cereal.

You don't need to let this dry completely before moving on.

4. (Optional) Make Ultra-Realistic “Milk”

If you want your cereal bowl to look extra realistic, you can add a resin layer:

  • Mix a small batch of resin
  • Tint it with white and a tiny bit of yellow resin dye
  • Pour it gently over the spackling

This gives your “milk” depth and shine.

5. Coat the Cereal in Resin

In a disposable paper bowl, mix your cereal with resin until each piece is fully coated.

⚠️ Important Tip:
If cereal isn’t fully sealed, it can attract ants later—so be thorough!

Also, mix different cereals in separate bowls to avoid crumbs contaminating other colors or shapes.

6. Add the Cereal

Once coated, pour the cereal onto the spackling or resin layer (depending on which method you chose).

Use a popsicle stick to gently move the cereal around so it looks natural—just like it would in a real bowl.

7. Let It Cure

Allow the resin to cure according to the instructions on your epoxy. This usually takes 24–72 hours depending on the brand.

Be patient here—it’s worth it!

8. Remove Excess Shine

After everything is fully cured, brush on a layer of matte varnish over the cereal pieces.

This step is key! It removes the overly shiny resin finish and makes the cereal look much more realistic.

9. Add Hanging Hardware

Flip your bowl over and attach sawtooth hanging hardware with screws.

Make sure it’s centered and secure so your artwork hangs properly on the wall.

🎨 Styling Your Cereal Wall Art

Once finished, hang your cereal bowl art in your craft room, studio, or workspace. It looks especially cute when paired with:

  • Colorful pegboards
  • Inspiration boards
  • Floating shelves
  • Other handmade decor

You can even create a whole “breakfast wall” with multiple bowls using different cereals!

This cereal bowl wall art is such a fun way to blend crafting with playful decor. It’s budget-friendly, customizable, and guaranteed to spark conversations when someone walks into your space.
